Michael Conforto 2020 Outlook: Steady Production At A Discount
5 years agoMichael Conforto turned in his best fantasy campaign yet in 2019, slashing .257/.363/.494 with 33 long balls and seven steals (two CS). Most of his peripheral stats support the performance, making a repeat in 2020 likely. He lifts the ball (40 FB%) and does a lot with airborne batted balls (20.5% HR/FB). He's above average by both average airborne exit velocity (93.7 mph) and rate of Brls/BBE (11.9%). Baseball Savant's xStats say that his 2019 should have been slightly better than it was (.262 xBA, .504 xSLG), and his 27.5 ft./sec Statcast Sprint Speed ranks above the league average. He also projects to hit in the middle of the Mets lineup, providing plenty of counting stat opportunities. Last season's .290 BABIP could even spike, though his career mark of .294 suggests otherwise. The 27-year-old isn't old yet either. Despite all of this, he's currently being taken well outside the top-100 in NFBC leagues (117.43 ADP). This profile is almost guaranteed to turn a profit at that price, making Conforto a desirable commodity in your drafts. He might not be sexy, but profit wins leagues.
