Michael Brantley 2020 Outlook: A Five Category Hitter
5 years agoMichael Brantley continued to be the model of consistency in 2019 by hitting .311/.372/.503 with 22 HR, 90 RBI, 88 R, and 51 BB. He matched a career-high in home runs and reached 90 RBI for the first time since 2014, which is likely a direct correlation to his new home in Houston. He hit in the middle of a lineup that scored the third-most runs in baseball, which no doubt helped him score the third-most runs of his career. He has always been described as a pure-hitter, so it should come as no surprise that he was able to put up such great numbers in a lineup like Houston’s. He can provide fantasy owners a little bit of everything as he has value in all five of the major hitting categories, especially batting average. We could see some reduction in power, however, as the 22 home runs were outside his normal scope. 2020 looks bright again for Brantley as he will likely reprise his role of batting in the middle of the order surrounded by superstars Jose Altuve and Alex Bregman. He currently has an ADP of 123 and is being taken as the 32nd outfielder off the board. He is likely being drafted this low because often players that contribute soundly in all categories but not standouts in any one category, tend to drop in drafts. Consider him an absolute steal at this position.
