6 years agoNew York Mets first baseman Dominic Smith was placed on the 10-day disabled list on Thursday with a quadriceps injury. It’s been a disastrous start to 2018 for Smith, who many thought would seamlessly take over the first base gig full time to start the year. Unfortunately, the Mets went out and signed first baseman Adrian Gonzalez, and Smith dealt with the quad injury for all of spring training (showing up late to a team meeting couldn’t have helped his cause). There still remains a solid chance Smith takes the job over at some point in 2018, but Gonzalez is going to have every chance to show he still has something left in the tank.--John Smith
