Mets, Pete Alonso Haven't Talked Extension
1 year agoThe New York Mets and All-Star first baseman Pete Alonso have not talked about a long-term contract extension yet this offseason, according to a source. Alonso notably hired Scott Boras as his agent back in October and he isn't scheduled to reach free agency until after the 2025 season. There wasn't much rush to talk extension as things stood, and now there will probably be less urgency given Boras' reputation for being adamant that his clients reach the open market for big payoffs. Contract aside, the 29-year-old right-handed slugger is one of the premier sluggers in the game, and the Mets currently have no plans to trade him away. The three-time All-Star and former National League Rookie of the Year in 2019 hit a career-worst .217 in 154 games in 2023, but it came with 46 home runs and 118 RBI.
