The New York Mets are in serious talks with free-agent catcher James McCann, according to league sources. McCann is the team's target over J.T. Realmuto and is said to be looking for a four-year deal. The Mets are also engaged with outfielder George Springer. New York could be bypassing the more expensive Realmuto so that they can also land both Springer and right-hander Trevor Bauer, the most coveted free-agent arm this winter after he won the National League Cy Young in 2020. McCann is a former All-Star coming off a great season with the White Sox and should sign for much less than Realmuto. Not only has McCann become one of the better hitting catchers in baseball in recent seasons, but he drastically improved his pitch framing last season as well.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
