Merrill Kelly Feeling Better
1 year agoArizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Merrill Kelly (calf) isn't worried about being diagnosed with his second blood clot in the last three years, but it doesn't mean he's not in a rush to get back onto the mound. Kelly had a blood clot in his right shoulder three years ago, an issue that ultimately led to surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome. He was prescribed blood-thinning medication on Sunday, and he said the swelling had subsided "a little bit." Kelly played catch out to 90 feet on Wednesday and said the plan was for him to undergo a follow-up ultrasound in a week to check the progress before potentially ramping up activities. Thankfully, the 34-year-old might not have to miss much time, and fantasy managers should keep him stashed after he's posted a 9-4 record, 3.22 ERA (3.84 FIP), 1.14 WHIP and 98 K's in 95 innings over 16 starts this year.
