Max Scherzer 2023 Outlook: Elite Production Should Continue
2 years agoNew York Mets starting pitcher Max Scherzer continues to provide elite production on the mound, showing no signs of slowing down. The 38-year-old was effective as ever last season for the National League East club, throwing 145.1 innings over the course of 23 starts and pitching to a 2.29 ERA, a 2.62 FIP, and 173 strikeouts. Not only did Scherzer once again provide strong strikeout numbers, but he also continued to limited walks. The veteran allowed just 24 walks. All told, his walk rate finished at 4.2% which ranked in the 96th percentile league-wide. The 2023 campaign was the seventh-straight full season in which Scherzer logged an ERA below the 3.00 mark. With the strikeout totals continuing to remain high paired with the veteran's ability to limit runs and base runners, Scherzer makes for an ideal option for fantasy managers who want to wait on starting pitching and select their first starter in the fourth or fifth round of drafts in 2023.
