Matt Barnes Blows Fourth Save
6 years agoBoston Red Sox relief pitcher Matt Barnes allowed two runs in the ninth inning against the Rangers, surrendering the 2-1 lead, and picking up his fourth blown save of the season. A two-RBI double by Nomar Mazara in the ninth inning ended Boston's hopes of a win in regulation. Barnes was able to retire the leadoff hitter before a single and double pitted two runners in scoring position. After the double, he was able to strikeout Hunter Pence before being removed after an intentional walk. In an already volatile bullpen situation, this failed opportunity may make things even more foggy, as manager Alex Cora could start to look elsewhere for saves. In the meantime, you can hold on Barnes if he is on your roster, but definitely don't rush to pick him up if he is available. He carries a 3.76 ERA with a 47/11 K/BB and four saves.
