Matt Andriese May Still Get Starts
7 years agoTampa Bay Rays pitcher Matt Andriese seems likely to serve as a key part of the Rays attempt to go with a bullpen approach of multiple pitchers going more than one inning each instead of a fifth starting pitcher. He has been a starter for the majority of his career, as he has started 44 games in his three seasons in the majors. He has had mediocre results so far, as he is below .500 and has had an ERA above 4.00 in each of the three seasons. His strikeout totals or even K/9 rate are unremarkable. The move to the bullpen will be due to the fact that the Rays feel they can go with a four-man rotation and then use their bullpen approach for the fifth game. He has some limited experience in the bullpen, having saved at least one game each season (four total). He is mostly a very deep league option at the moment.
