Mark Vientos Getting A Breather Versus Cubs
Mark Vientos is out of the team's starting lineup for Friday's series opener at Citi Field against the visiting Chicago Cubs. Brett Baty will draw into the lineup at third base and bat sixth against Cubs right-hander Jameson Taillon. So far in 2025, Vientos has been unable to replicate his breakout season from a year ago. The 25-year-old right-handed slugger is sitting for the second straight game and is currently slashing an underwhelming .220/.301/.370 with a .671 OPS, four home runs, 15 RBI and 16 runs scored in 127 at-bats for the Mets. The good news, though, is he currently has a five-game hitting streak in which he's gone 6-for-19 with two runs scored. Baty, a former first-rounder in 2019, has yet to figure it out at the big-league level and has gone 11-for-58 (.190) with a homer and four RBI in limited action. The 25-year-old has never faced Taillon in his MLB career.
