Mark Ingram II 2022 NFL Player Outlook: Kamara's Looming Suspension Puts Veteran Rusher In A Prime Fantasy Position
2 years agoIn a season-changing turn of events, New Orleans Saints running back Mark Ingram II is, once more, the franchise's No. 1 rusher entering next season. That's very literal, though. Alvin Kamara could potentially be suspended for the first six weeks from his February arrest following an altercation in Las Vegas. The star running back should be back in time to play the last two-thirds of the season, thus relegating Ingram to secondary/backup duties. Ingram will be playing football at age 33 and for the 12th season in a row come September, of course, back in New Orleans from the get-go after spending time in Baltimore through the last three seasons. The veteran had three tough years to kick his career off (fewer than 100 PPR points and no more than 162 touches) but then exploded into a perennial RB1. Until he was not (2020 and 2021), what if he gets there this season aided by that six-week No. 1 rusher boost? Ingram has scored 10 receiving touchdowns from 2016 on and five (!) as recently as 2019 on just 29 targets and 26 receptions. It will take a while for fantasy GMs to catch up and start drafting Ingram confidently. It might never happen, but for a season-long backup with RB1 upside in the first third of the season, you can do much worse than reaping the rewards of such a surprising and out-of-nowhere option popping up draft boards still quoted at meager ADP prices.
