Marcell Ozuna To Reject Qualifying Offer
5 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals outfielder Marcell Ozuna plans to reject the team's one-year, $17.8 million qualifying offer to become a free agent, but his representatives met with the Cardinals on Tuesday to explore a multi-year contract. Ozuna has had early interest from at least half a dozen teams, including the Reds, according to two sources. The White Sox and Rangers are also interested, and the Braves are another possible suitor. St. Louis would like to clear paths to playing time in the outfield for their younger players. Ozuna has hit .262 with a .451 slugging percentage, .777 OPS and 52 home runs. He's expressed to the Cardinals that his preference is to remain with the team as their cleanup hitter.
