Mallex Smith To Be Rested For A Week
6 years agoSeattle Mariners outfielder Mallex Smith (elbow, forearm) is expected to be a spectator in camp for at least seven to 10 days while dealing with a sore right throwing arm. Manager Scott Servais said he doesn't know if this will impact Smith's availability for the two-game series in Japan or the team's home opener. Smith thinks it's a minor setback from him trying to come back too soon and ramp it up too quickly. He should be cleared to resume hitting soon and could be fine for the start of the season. Smith hit .296/.367/.406 with two homers, 65 runs scored and 40 stolen bases last year for Tampa and is a great source of steals again in 2019, as he's set to be the team's regular center fielder.
