Luke Gregerson Could See a Drastic Change in Fantasy Value
7 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals relief pitcher Luke Gregerson could see an enormous change in his fantasy value over the next few weeks. Gregerson is currently penciled in as the St. Louis closer. As a guy with closing experience taking over the role on a team expected to win plenty of games, Gregerson is, at least for now, a valuable fantasy bullpen piece. The Cardinals have been fairly open about their bullpen situation, saying that they are still shopping for relief help and that their bullpen is not quite done yet. Gregerson struggled a bit in 2017, posting a 4.57 ERA over 61 innings. His strikeout numbers were solid though, as he punched out 10.33 batters per nine innings. If Gregerson is indeed kept in the closer's role, he'll be a solid but unexciting middling option. If he is demoted to a setup role, however, his fantasy value will be nonexistent outside of holds leagues.
