Luis Severino Slims Down
2 years agoNew York Yankees starting pitcher Luis Severino made changes to his diet in the offseason and dropped 15 pounds during the winter as he enters the final year of his contract in 2023. Severino made only three starts from 2019-21 due to various injuries, including Tommy John surgery, but he had a nice 3.18 ERA with 112 strikeouts in 102 innings (19 starts) as he bounced back in 2022. The 29-year-old right-hander had his $15 million option picked up for this year, but he wants to pitch a full season and stay healthy all year. The Yankees have not talked about an extension, but Severino said he'd be open to the idea of finishing his career in pinstripes. Fewer restrictions this year should give him more fantasy upside, but he's got to stay on the mound in order to cash in on it. RotoBaller has him ranked as the No. 37 fantasy starter, but Severino has clear top-20 upside if he avoids more injuries.
