Luis Gil Activated, Starting Sunday
Luis Gil (lat) from the 60-day injured list for his season debut against the Miami Marlins on Sunday. To make room for Gil, the Yankees placed reliever Jonathan Loaisiga (back) on the 15-day injured list with right mid-back tightness, retroactive to Aug. 2. Gil suffered a high-grade lat strain during spring training, which has prevented him from following up on last season's AL Rookie of the Year-winning effort. The 27-year-old earned the honor after going 15-7 with a 3.50 ERA, a 1.19 WHIP, and 171:77 K:BB over 151 2/3 innings. After throwing 75 pitches in his final rehab start, Gil is ready to slide back into New York's rotation and take over for the just-released Marcus Stroman.
