Luis Arraez Dealing With Knee Injury
2 weeks agoSan Diego Padres first baseman/designated hitter Luis Arraez (knee) jammed his right knee sliding into home plate in Monday night's win over the visiting Houston Astros, but he said it is just inflammation. Arraez thinks he'll be ready to go on Tuesday, but he needs to wait and see. The 27-year-old hit machine stayed in the game after sliding into home plate but was replaced by a pinch-runner in the seventh inning after he doubled and hobbled into second base. Before leaving, he had two hits in four at-bats to extend his hitting streak to 14 games. Arraez also snapped a string of 141 straight plate appearances without a strikeout on Monday when he fanned early in the game. The Venezuelan has very little power (four homers) or speed (nine steals), but he's an elite contact hitter who is now batting .323 (194-for-601) on the year. Consider Arraez to be day-to-day for now.
