Logan Ryan 2020 Outlook: Big Season In 2019 Will Make Him Overvalued Cornerback Commodity
5 years agoOn the surface, Logan Ryan had one of the best seasons of his career in 2019 with the Titans, recording 113 tackles (73 solo), 4.5 sacks, four interceptions, 18 passes defensed and four forced fumbles. He finished as the top-scoring fantasy defensive back. But as you dig deeper, it wasn't all good for the 29-year-old. Ryan had an average grade of 64.9 from Pro Football Focus and allowed a league-leading seven touchdowns while being penalized 11 times. The former third-round pick also allowed an NFL-high 80 catches and a QB rating of 95.3 when he was targeted. So while Ryan did put up solid stats while being targeted heavily by opposing teams, the underlying numbers show that he wasn't quite as good as the numbers suggest, and it's why he's still available on the open market while asking for $10 million per season. Ryan can bring veteran experience to a cornerback-needy club, but even though he had a big year in 2019 and has 8.5 sacks the last two seasons, he can also be a liability in coverage and is a good bet to regress in terms of IDP production.
