Leody Taveras Sits Amidst Slump
1 year agoTexas Rangers outfielder Leody Taveras is not in the starting lineup on Friday against the visiting Milwaukee Brewers. In his absence, rookie Julio Pablo Martinez is starting in center field and is batting seventh against Brewers right-hander Brandon Woodruff. The Rangers are hoping a day off for Taveras will help him turn things around at the plate in the month of August. Since the calendar flipped to August, he's gone 9-for-53 (.170) with no home runs, four doubles, a triple, five RBI, 15 strikeouts and three runs scored in 14 starts. The 24-year-old Dominican has provided modest power/speed numbers for fantasy managers in deep-mixed leagues in his fourth big-league season, though, hitting a career-high 11 home runs and stealing 11 bags while also driving in a career-high 54 runs in 105 games played.
