Laviska Shenault Jr. 2023 NFL Player Outlook: New Role Might Help Fantasy Production
2 years agoCarolina Panthers wide receiver Laviska Shenault Jr. enters the final year of his rookie contract. The former second-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft hasn't been a consistent playmaker and has failed to top over 700 scrimmage yards in his three seasons in the NFL. With the Panthers in 2022, Shenault had 27 catches for 272 yards and one touchdown through the air while rushing 65 yards on nine attempts and one touchdown on the ground. Shenault finished the season as the WR95 in PPR formats and wasn't rostered in many fantasy leagues. However, the 24-year-old could benefit from the coaching change in Carolina. Frank Reich told reporters he'd try to use Shenault similarly to how the 49ers use Deebo Samuel. That is encouraging news, but more is needed to get him drafted in most leagues. He will likely be behind Adam Thielen, D.J. Chark, Terrace Marshall Jr., and rookie Jonathan Mingo on the wide receiver depth chart. Even if he earns the WR3 job in Carolina, he will only carry a little fantasy value on a rebuilding offense. He's ranked 275th overall on RotoBaller and is a dart throw in deep-league formats.
