La'Mical Perine 2020 Outlook: Watch And Learn Young Grasshopper
5 years agoNew York Jets rookie running back Lamical Perine was drafted with the 14th pick of the fourth-round in the NFL Draft. He may be the future in the Jets backfield, but he is going to have to wait until the team can escape the Le'Veon Bell contract. Perine is more of a downhill one-cut runner than a guy who is going to juke defenders with dynamic cuts and impress with lateral quickness, but his 40 receptions in his final year of college give us hope that he can develop into a three-down running back at the next level. There was some initial hope that the former Florida Gator might see some playing time as the handcuff to Bell, but that was quickly dispelled when Gang Green signed ancient running back Frank Gore to a one-year deal at the beginning of May. The bright side in all of this is that Bell and Gore are incredible mentors for the 5'11" ball carrier, and he should have a bright future in the green and white. However, the downside is that now there are too many mouths to feed in this backfield, and he likely won't have any fantasy value in redraft leagues absent an injury to Bell or Gore. His ADP currently sits at RB100, and he should be off the fantasy radar completely for non-Bell owners. On the other hand, he should be scooped up in as many dynasty leagues as possible, because after the Bell experiment is over, all roads point to Perine as his successor.
