Kyrie Irving Catches Fire Entering All-Star Break
7 years agoBoston Celtics point guard Kyrie Irving was on fire on Wednesday despite falling to the Clippers. With 33 points, he shot 5-for-7 from downtown and 11-for-21 from the field. He also dished eight assists, but much like the Celtics performance in the fourth quarter recently, Irving went quiet. As we go into the All-Star break and the fantasy trade deadline approaches, it’s time to take a breath and evaluate your team. Irving as a Celtic hasn’t seen his stats take a dip like many suggested coming into the season. His usage has actually bumped up from 30.2 to 30.9 percent from his days as a sidekick, and he’s largely benefited from Gordon Hayward going down. The Celtics ideal offense is a spread attack that features shooters and slashers, but due to the inconsistencies of this young team, Irving has needed to take a central role. This will likely continue as we enter the stretch run, and Irving will consistently be prone to high-scoring games.
