Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Kyle Gibson is scheduled to be on the mound on Thursday to face the Tampa Bay Rays. While the matchup looks solid on paper, a closer look reveals that Gibson might get into some trouble. First off, the Rays have been on fire during a five-game win streak — and they started off the month of July by completing a sweep of the defending champion Houston Astros. They’ve averaged a little over six runs during that win streak. Secondly, the Rays already beat the veteran once this season, as evidenced by their 10-1 thrashing of Gibson and the Twins back in April. Lastly, Gibson has been somewhat predictable in 2018; he’ll pitch a great game, followed by a couple of so-so outings with an ugly one thrown in between. He pitched very well against the Orioles in his last start, so if we’re to follow history he might be due for a rough one on Thursday. Gibson will probably get his fair share of strikeouts against the Rays, but fantasy players should tread lightly with him on Thursday.--Mauricio Castillo
