Kyle Gibson Might Get Into Trouble On Thursday
Kyle Gibson is scheduled to be on the mound on Thursday to face the Tampa Bay Rays. While the matchup looks solid on paper, a closer look reveals that Gibson might get into some trouble. First off, the Rays have been on fire during a five-game win streak — and they started off the month of July by completing a sweep of the defending champion Houston Astros. They’ve averaged a little over six runs during that win streak. Secondly, the Rays already beat the veteran once this season, as evidenced by their 10-1 thrashing of Gibson and the Twins back in April. Lastly, Gibson has been somewhat predictable in 2018; he’ll pitch a great game, followed by a couple of so-so outings with an ugly one thrown in between. He pitched very well against the Orioles in his last start, so if we’re to follow history he might be due for a rough one on Thursday. Gibson will probably get his fair share of strikeouts against the Rays, but fantasy players should tread lightly with him on Thursday.
