Kevin Gausman is a Late-Round Pick At Best.
7 years agoFirst, the good news about Kevin Gausman's 2017 season - he reached career highs in games started, wins and strikeouts. The bad news is that he lost 12 games and had a career-high 4.68 ERA. That's not a really good reason to want to keep running him out there in your lineup, even though he did have a better second half of the season. Gausman's situation reflects how bad Baltimore's starting pitching situation is. He's practically guaranteed one of the first two spots and then the Orioles are going to throw out a bunch of other people to see who sticks. We think that you should pick him very, very, very late in a draft, around the 23rd round. You know, when people are just grabbing players while hoping for the best. One of our writers is a bit more optimistic, suggesting around pick No. 187. Still, the later the better.
