Kendrys Morales Retires From Baseball
5 years agoFirst baseman/designated hitter Kendrys Morales announced his retirement on Friday after a career spanning 13 seasons and seven teams. The 36-year-old hit just .194 with two home runs in 201 plate appearances with the Athletics and Yankees last season, and he was released by New York in July. He defected from Cuba in 2004 to sign a six-year, $3 million deal with the Angels. Morales hit 34 home runs with 108 RBI and a .569 slugging percentage in his first full year in the majors in 2009. He also had stints with the Mariners, Royals, Twins and Blue Jays and will finish his career with 213 home runs, 740 RBI and a .265 batting average.
