Julio Teheran Battles Inconsistency
7 years agoJulio Teheran was once considered a potential front of the rotation starting pitcher. However, his stock has fallen tremendously. Teheran’s performance has been progressively worse every year, even if his 2017 stats were quite peculiar. Teheran had a 4.49 earned run average, which seemed bad until you realize it could have been worse, given a field independent pitching of 4.95. He also had a 3.44% BB/9, the most since 2011. Teheran usually does well against right-handed batters, however, they had a .272 average, .313 on-base percentage and .440 slugging, but they only had a 24.3% hard hit. Teheran allowed a .238 average against left-handed hitters, whom he usually does poorly against. A closer look reveals left-handed hitters did have a .338 weighted on-base average against him. Teheran can be drafted near the 20th round. At this point, Teheran can only be utilized as a back of the rotation fill-in in dynasty leagues. At only 27 years old, Teheran is not a bad option to stash in case he does improve his market value.
