Joshua Lowe 2021 Outlook: Underrated Prospect Possesses Power-Speed Intrigue
4 years agoHouston's Kyle Tucker has seen a huge jump in fantasy value in just one year. As we approach spring training, he's currently sitting with an ADP of around 30 because of his success during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season. But what if you could find a player with a similar skill set that few, if any people, will be targeting early on in 2021? That's where Lowe comes in. The Rays outfielder faces stiff competition for a roster spot and will likely open the year in Triple-A but his mix of power and speed makes him an early favorite for a promotion to fill in for an injured or underperforming outfielder. In 2019, Lowe produced 18 home runs and 30 stolen bases while playing in Double-A and had been showing improvements in all aspects of his game. He has more swing-and-miss than Tucker but the Rays prospect is a little more patient so that will give his on-base numbers a boost even if the batting average is more in the .230-.250 range. With solid defensive skills, Lowe can play any outfield position and could be well-positioned to take over for Kevin Kiermaier when the Rays can get rid of that contract. He may not hear his name called on fantasy draft day in redraft leagues but he's a prospect worth monitoring. He's also a sneaky-good target for dynasty leagues.
