Josh Donaldson 2019 Outlook: High-Risk/Reward Player In Dynamic Offense
6 years agoJosh Donaldson suffered an abysmal 2018. He was plagued by a calf injury that limited him to just 52 games. The trouble came after calf and shoulder problems in 2017 when Donaldson managed only 113 games and went on the DL for the first time in his career. In some capacity, managers can look at Donaldson and see a player who hasn’t been healthy in two years. They can also see a player who averaged 40.2 HR/162 games in the last two seasons. The verdict then is simple: Donaldson is only as good as his ability to get on the field. The Atlanta Braves believe in Donaldson’s ability to get healthy and perform because they reportedly see Donaldson as the team’s number two hitter. That position would make him a candidate for well over 200 R+RBI even if he doesn't regain all of his former power. Donaldson’s recent injury history makes him a boom or bust candidate, but if he can stay on the field for even 130 games, he should manage to be a top-five third baseman. The people seem to agree as he has an ADP of 100.
