Josh Berry May Be Set For Long-Run Struggles At Martinsville
1 month agoStewart-Haas Racing driver Josh Berry will start 11th for Sunday's Xfinity 500 at Martinsville Speedway, which is a lower starting position compared to his only previous race at the site earlier in the year. During Berry's only race at Martinsville back in April this season, he ran inside the Top 10 at the end of the first two stages before slipping back and finishing 25th. In the Xfinity Series at Martinsville, Berry has three top-5 finishes, including a win from the April 2021 race. After 34 races so far this season, Berry has four top-10 finishes and an average finish of 22.9. At short tracks this year, Berry has four top-15 finishes and led in three different events at the track type. In practice, Berry ranked 10th in overall lap averages while ranking 12th in five consecutive lap averages, seventh in 10 consecutive lap averages, and failing to rank among the Top 10 fastest in all other eligible categories on speed. Despite his Xfinity Series success at Martinsville, his equipment, and practice speeds in the short run, Berry is difficult to recommend outside of tournament lineups. This is due to his low upside and inconsistency throughout the season, with his last top-10 result coming in New Hampshire in June.
