Jorge Soler 2024 Player Outlook: Expect Big Power Numbers And High OBP
11 months agoThe San Francisco Giants have landed another bat in DH/OF Jorge Soler. Hitting cleanup, Soler will bring power to the Bay Area, especially against left-handed pitching. In 2023, the former All-Star blasted 36 HR, with a 92nd percentile Barrel% and HR/FB% of 21.2%. Against LHP, Soler had the best ISO in the entire league at .411 (.219 vs RHP) and fifth-best wRC+ of 181 (110 vs RHP). The less-than-league-average Contact% of 75.0% can cause bouts of streakiness, and 22 of his 36 HR came in just two months (May and August), although he consistently gets on base as a result of a better-than-league-average BB% of 11.4%. All in all, the former World Series MVP owned a .250-36-75-77-1 line with a .361 WOBA and 126 wRC+ in 2023. Heading into his age-32 season, ATC projections call for a .242-31-80-73-1 line with a .347 WOBA and 119 wRC+. NFBC ADP data shows he's going around pick 153, well ahead of his RotoBaller rank of 167. While plate discipline metrics like Contact% and SwStr% have been improving for Soler since 2018, Marcell Ozuna offers similar production in perhaps the best environment around and RotoBaller ranks him 22 spots ahead of Soler despite having nearly identical ADPs.
