San Diego Padres starter Jordan Lyles pitched well in a spot start Thursday night against the St. Louis Cardinals. Asked to finish three innings, Lyles completed five strong frames, allowing two runs (one earned), five hits, a walk and striking out six batters in the tough-luck loss. Lyles replaced struggling pitcher Bryan Mitchell in the starting rotation this week and has likely earned at least another start. Lyles, a career 5.36 ERA pitcher, has a 3.28 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 8.0 K/9 through Thursday's start and 13 relief appearances this season. He can safely remain on the waiver wire until he posts a few more quality outings.--Andrew Le - RotoBaller
