San Diego Padres starter Jordan Lyles was masterful in a victory Tuesday against the Colorado Rockies. Lyles was five outs away from the first perfect game in Padres history but surrendered a single to Rockies shortstop Trevor Story with one out in the eighth inning. He walked the next batter and was pulled after 7 1/3 innings as the Padres bullpen completed the one-hit shutout. Aside from the two baserunners, Lyles was spotless and struck out 10 on the day. After replacing pitcher Bryan Mitchell in the starting rotation last week, Lyles has put together two strong outings. Along with 13 relief appearances, he holds an impressive 2.53 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 9.1 K/9. Lyles has taken a more aggressive approach after his stint in the bullpen and now has a firm grip as a regular starter. He'll be a popular waiver wire candidate this week.--Andrew Le - RotoBaller
