Jonathan Toews Announces He's Taking A Break From Hockey
1 year agoFree-agent center Jonathan Toews announced he's taking a break from the NHL to focus on his health. "I cannot deny my love for the game of hockey and still feel the passion for competing at my highest level," Toews posted on Instagram. "However, these last few seasons have been very difficult considering my health challenges. My focus is to give myself the time and space to fully heal and enjoy life to the fullest once again." The long-time Chicago Blackhawks captain played just 53 games in 2022-23 and missed the entire 2020-21 campaign. He's been dealing with chronic immune response syndrome and long COVID symptoms. Toews became an unrestricted free agent this summer after his deal with the Blackhawks expired. Having notched 15 goals and 16 assists with the team last term, Toews showed that he can still be serviceable in the NHL. Hopefully, the three-time Stanley Cup champion can get his health back and we get to see him lace up his skates again sometime.
