John Carlson Set To Return Thursday
2 years agoWashington Capitals defenseman John Carlson (head) has been activated from Injured Reserve and he's set to rejoin the lineup Thursday against Chicago. The star rearguard hasn't played since Dec. 23 after taking a slap shot to the head. It was only recently revealed that Carlson suffered a fractured skull and a severed temporal artery in the incident. His return will be a massive boost for a team that still has an outside chance of getting into the playoffs. Carlson, who has posted 21 points in 30 games this season, is expected to assume his normal duties on the first defensive pairing and the top power-play unit. Rasmus Sandin will be forced to settle for a role on the second unit.
