Johan Oviedo Optioned To Triple-A
3 years agoThe St. Louis Cardinals optioned right-hander Johan Oviedo to Triple-A Memphis on Thursday night. With the All-Star break coming up, the Cardinals won't need a fourth starter until July 19 or a fifth starter until July 20, so Oviedo might rejoin the big league rotation later this month. Until then, he can make a start in the minors during the All-Star break. The 23-year-old only has eight innings at the Triple-A level after being called up from Double-A last year out of necessity. He has really struggled in 12 outings (11 starts) for the Cards this year, going 0-5 with a 5.09 ERA, 1.56 WHIP, 40 strikeouts and 30 walks in 53 innings. Oviedo will likely rejoin the rotation again at some point, but he'll obviously be an extremely shaky streaming option.
