Joey Wiemer Scratched With Stomach Virus
1 year agoMilwaukee Brewers rookie outfielder Joey Wiemer (illness) was scratched from Wednesday's lineup against the Colorado Rockies due to a stomach virus, according to the team. Blake Perkins will take over in center field and will hit in the nine-hole against Rockies right-hander Chris Flexen. First baseman Carlos Santana is out sick for the second straight day as well, so perhaps there is a bug floating around Milwaukee's clubhouse. Wiemer should be considered day-to-day for now, and with an off day coming on Thursday, perhaps he's feeling good enough to play on Friday against the Chicago White Sox. The 24-year-old has 13 home runs and 11 stolen bases in his first 109 big-league games in 2023, but he's also hitting just .216 (71-for-329) with a weak .293 on-base percentage.
