Joey Gallo 2021 Outlook: Three True Outcomes Slugger Poised To Deliver Profit
4 years agoTexas Rangers slugger Joey Gallo had a down 2020, slashing .181/.301/.378 with 10 HR over 226 PAs. By now, gamers know what to expect from the all-or-nothing slugger. He'll strike out way too often (35 K% last season) while posting one of the lowest BABIPs in the league (.259) due to an extreme pull tendency, dooming his average every year. He also hits a ton of fly balls (55 FB% last year, 50.8% career) with plenty of power behind them, allowing him to make a run at 40 HR annually. Last season's 96.8 mph average airborne exit velocity and 14% rate of Brls/BBE were both strong, but Gallo was considerably better in both 2019 (101.2 mph, 25.6% Brls/BBE) and 2018 (99.9 mph, 22.5% Brls/BBE). Globe Life Field certainly looked like an extreme pitcher's park, but could it have made that much of a difference? The Rangers don't have that many offensive weapons, so Gallo is locked into the cleanup spot even if he continues to struggle. With an ADP of 170.05, betting on a Gallo rebound could be a very profitable investment in fantasy.
