Jimmy Nelson Set For Return
6 years agoMilwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Jimmy Nelson will make his first MLB appearance since September 8, 2017 on Wednesday against the Miami Marlins. Miami is sending out a nearly identical lineup to the one that scored 16 runs on Tuesday, with catcher Bryan Holaday behind the dish instead of Jorge Alfaro as the only change. That said, it's the time off, not any sudden potency in the Miami lineup, that makes Nelson a risky play in both standard leagues and DFS Wednesday. However, he should certainly be rostered at this point after posting a 12-6 record, 3.49 ERA, and 199 strikeouts in 175 1/3 innings in 2017.

Jimmy Nelson In The Midst Of A Rehab Assignment
2 years agoLos Angeles Dodgers right-hander Jimmy Nelson (elbow) has begun a rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday. He walked one, gave up a single, but didn't allow a run to score and struck out a batter in one inning, according to Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register. Nelson hasn't pitched in the Majors since 2021, where he posted a 1.86 ERA and a 37.9% strikeout rate across 28 games and one start. When the 33-year-old does return, fantasy managers should expect him to be in the bullpen again, as he hasn't been a full-time starter since 2017. Nelson can stay on the waiver wire unless manager Dave Roberts starts to use him in a high-leverage role.

Jimmy Nelson To Open Year On Injured List
2 years agoLos Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Jimmy Nelson (elbow) won't be ready for the beginning of the year. Nelson has been pitching in spring training as he makes his way back from Tommy John, but he isn't ready for regular season game action yet. After missing all of 2022, Nelson signed a big-league deal with the Dodgers this offseason and will be an intriguing bullpen piece when healthy. With great ratios in 2021, he could be useful in deeper leagues or ones that count holds as a stat.
