Jimmy Garoppolo 2020 Outlook- Being Drafted At His Ceiling
5 years agoSan Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo completed his first fully healthy season in the Bay Area in 2019. The sixth-year signal-caller completed 69.1% of his passes for 3,978 yards and 27 touchdowns, with 13 interceptions, finishing 2019 as QB14. Garoppolo finished roughly three points behind Jared Goff as QB13 and 11 points behind QB12 Tom Brady. This offseason, 49ers lost left tackle Joe Staley to retirement but replaced him with Trent Williams. They also added wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk in the first round of the NFL draft. Some red flags are surrounding Garoppolo's 2020 fantasy outlook. For one, Garroppolo averaged 16.27 fantasy points per game in 2019. That was 22nd last season, behind names like Andy Dalton, Gardner Minshew II, and Daniel Jones. The 49ers were a balanced offensive team during the regular season but became very run-heavy during the playoffs. San Francisco was willing to run the ball while ahead, evidenced by Garoppolo's 27 pass attempts in the first two games combined. Garropolo did attempt 31 passes in the Super Bowl, but it was thanks to having to keep up with Kansas City's explosive offense. Garoppolo is currently being drafted as QB12, which is his best-case scenario considering how much the 49ers run the ball and his lack of upside as a runner at the quarterback position.
