Jimmie Johnson's Return To NASCAR Starts At Daytona
2 years agoSeven-time NASCAR Cup Series Champion Jimmie Johnson will make his return to the track after a two-year break, and he did so by qualifying for the Daytona 500 on Wednesday. Johnson, a part owner of the newly formed Legacy Motor Club, posted a qualifying lap speed of 179.276. This qualifying speed was the fastest among the six drivers of the unchartered cars trying to race their way into the Daytona 500. Johnson was 23rd overall in qualifying and as he takes the wheel for his first race in the NextGen car, we may need to temper expectations for Johnson this weekend for our DFS lineups. Historically, Johnson has been average at superspeedways in his career with an average finish of 23.5, but again, that was not in this new car. Johnson could appeal to DFS players based on his salary of $7,700 on DraftKings, depending upon where he qualifies, but it will not be without risk as the veteran makes his way back behind the wheel in one of the wildest NASCAR races on the schedule.
