Jhoulys Chacin Is An Average SP
7 years agoJhoulys Chacin’s efforts in 2017 resulted in a starter that was usable at times in fantasy leagues. Chacin had 153 strikeouts in 180 innings equal to league average 7.64 K/9. Chacin’s fastball has increased velocity to the highest it has been in the last six years (91mph). He threw 58.7% first pitch strikes and 46% of his pitches in the strike zone, both of which are league average as well. Unfortunately, that is where the successful stats end. Chacin did post a 3.89 earned run average, but also a 4.26 fielding independent pitching. He was worse against left-handed hitters, posting a 5.46 FIP, 6.54 K/9, and 4.93 BB/9 against them. Chacin is a ground-ball pitcher (49.1%), which will be necessary for him to be successful in his new ballpark. The Brewers’ defense is improved from what it has been in the past. However, Chacin’s success will be determined by his ability to limit base runners and keeping the ball on the ground. Chacin is only being drafted in National League only drafts. Dynasty league owners should have no interest in Chacin except to pick them him off waiver wire for potential spot starts.
