6 months agoTexas Rangers pitcher Jesse Chavez earned the team's first save after the trade deadline Wednesday night vs the Mariners. Chavez allowed a single but struck out two batters to protect a two-run lead. Chavez has played many roles for the Rangers this season, he's been a traditional starter, an opener, a bulk reliever and now closer so it is unlikely he nails down the ninth inning job rest of season. Shawn Kelley (biceps) was being used as the traditional closer before going on the injured list and the struggling Jose Leclerc and Brett Martin are in the mix for saves as well. In the wake of the trade deadline, fantasy owners hungry for saves can look elsewhere for new closers than at the 35-year-old journeyman with a 4.57 FIP.--Mike Schwarzenbach - RotoBaller
