Jean Segura Could Reach All-Star Status In 2018
7 years agoSeattle Mariners shortstop Jean Segura has a new contract and a new season to thrive with the Mariners. He hit .300 in his first season with Seattle hitting 11 home runs, 30 doubles while stealing 23 bases and scoring 80 runs. But Segura was limited to only 125 games due to injuries, including a mid-season ankle injury that really hurt his fantasy value in the second half,. Segura hit .349 in 255 at-bats before an awkward slide at second base in June derailed an, at the time, All-Star-type season. Segura floundered towards the end of the season, hitting only .253 with a .311 on base percentage in his final 269 at-bats. So which player can fantasy owners expect for 2018? Segura has an elite hit tool who steps into the box looking to put the ball in play. With newly acquired speedster Dee Gordon slotted at the top of the lineup, Segura should have some early opportunities. Segura could easily exceed his home run and runs scored totals in 2018 but his low on base numbers limits his value outside of the elite. Nonetheless, Segura could raise expecations and easily make a push again for another All-Star birth this season hitting in an improved Mariners lineup.
