Javier Baez Still Dealing With Thumb Issues

Chicago Cubs manager David Ross said that shortstop Javier Baez (thumb) jammed his thumb again on a couple of plays on Saturday night, and the club removed him from the game in the final inning as a precaution. Baez had missed a few games earlier this week with a thumb injury, so it made sense for them to be extra cautious. The good news is that Baez was in the starting lineup for the Sunday evening game against the St. Louis Cardinals before it was postponed. The 28-year-old went 2-for-3 in the game before exiting and has been hot in July so far, slashing .346/.379/.731 with three home runs and seven RBI. Baez won't help with average, but his power/speed upside can't be denied with 21 home runs and 10 stolen bases in 290 at-bats.
