James Wood 2026 Fantasy Baseball Outlook: Looking to Join the Elite Ranks in 2026
On the surface, it's hard to be too upset about James Wood's 2025 season. The 23-year-old Sophomore outfielder smacked 31 home runs with 15 steals, 94 RBI, 38 doubles, and 87 runs scored in 157 games with a .256/.350/.475 slash line. That all looks great until you see that Wood slashed .223/.301/.388 with a 39% strikeout rate after the all-star break. Yes, the strikeouts are a notable concern along with the below-average contact rates, but Wood also recorded a 16.3% barrel rate, 94.3 mph AVG EV, 56.3% hard-hit rate, 12.3% walk rate, and had a 62nd percentile sprint speed. You'd love to see the strikeout rate come down and the batted ball angles improve, but not many players can say they have legitimate 40/20 upside in 2026. It's not a stretch to say that Wood could become a first rounder in 2027 fantasy baseball drafts.
