James Paxton Enters 2018 As De Facto Mariners Ace
7 years agoSeattle Mariners left-handed starter James Paxton will look to duplicate his breakout 2017 season after he put up a 12-5 record with a 2.98 ERA in 136 innings pitched. He struck 156 hitters last season and allowed only 112 hits while he carried the Mariners depleted pitching staff in the first half of the season. Paxton was rolling early on in the year, winning his first four decisions and holding in ERA that hovered above one. But a rocky month of June combined with a lat injury took the wind out of his sails. Paxton will now have the opportunity to take the role of 'ace' by the horns. If he can maintain his 1.10 WHIP of last season he should do just that. The Mariners offense is certainly improved this season but their pitching staff still remains a huge questiion mark. Paxton may be the most stable option in fantasy among all Mariners pitchers heading into the season.
