5 years agoChicago White Sox catcher James McCann could be trade bait this offseason as the team looks to strengthen their bullpen. McCann, who was a first-time All-Star in 2019, is more expendable after the Pale Hose signed catcher Yasmani Grandal and first baseman/designated hitter Edwin Encarnacion off the free-agent market. Grandal will be the primary catcher, meaning McCann will have limited playing time if he stays on the roster. The 29-year-old hit 18 home runs and drove in 60 runs for a .789 OPS in 118 games. McCann hit .316 with an .873 OPS in the first half but slumped in the second half, hitting .226 with a .694 OPS. The writing seems to be on the wall, though, for McCann to go elsewhere this offseason.
