James McCann Could Be Trade Bait
5 years agoChicago White Sox catcher James McCann could be trade bait this offseason as the team looks to strengthen their bullpen. McCann, who was a first-time All-Star in 2019, is more expendable after the Pale Hose signed catcher Yasmani Grandal and first baseman/designated hitter Edwin Encarnacion off the free-agent market. Grandal will be the primary catcher, meaning McCann will have limited playing time if he stays on the roster. The 29-year-old hit 18 home runs and drove in 60 runs for a .789 OPS in 118 games. McCann hit .316 with an .873 OPS in the first half but slumped in the second half, hitting .226 with a .694 OPS. The writing seems to be on the wall, though, for McCann to go elsewhere this offseason. It'd be good news for his fantasy outlook as well with more playing time on another team.
