Jamal Murray Will Sit Out The World Cup
1 year agoDenver Nuggets point guard Jamal Murray won't take part in the 2023 FIBA World Cup, leaving Canada without one of its stars. Murray didn't travel with the team to Germany for exhibition games last week, but there was still hope that he can participate in the tournament. However, the 26-year-old simply isn't ready to play yet following Denver's championship-winning campaign. "When I came into training camp, I wanted to see how my body would respond after a long and demanding season and if I would be physically able to compete at the highest level required for the World Cup," Murray said. "In consultation with medical staff and the team, it is clear that additional recovery is required, and I have made the difficult decision to not participate in the tournament. It's still a dream of mine to represent Canada at the Olympics, and I will support the team every step of the way as they pursue this goal." Whilst Murray's absence is awful news for Canada, fantasy managers should be happy with his decision, as he won't have the World Cup as a distraction ahead of the 2023-24 NBA campaign.
