The San Francisco 49ers placed rookie wide receiver Jalen Hurd (back) and cornerback Jason Verrett (knee) on the Injured Reserve on Thursday and re-signed cornerback Dontae Johnson to a one-year deal in a corresponding move. Hurd has a chance to return later this year, but nobody should be expecting him to make an impact in what is essentially a lost rookie season. The Niners will move forward with Marquise Goodwin, Deebo Samuel and Dante Pettis in most three-wide sets, with Kendrick Bourne and Richie James mixing in. Verrett just cannot stay healthy in the NFL and has become a bust at this point.--Keith Hernandez
