Jake Odorizzi Makes Sense For The Mets
4 years agoWith the New York Mets still looking to upgrade their starting rotation, free-agent starting pitcher Jake Odorizzi makes perfect sense. Odorizzi will turn 31 in March and went 15-7 with a 3.51 ERA on his way to his first All-Star selection. However, he struggled during the shortened 2020 season by going 0-1 with a 6.59 ERA in four starts while battling chest and blister issues. The right-hander also has familiarity with pitching coach Jeremy Hefner, who served as the Twins assistant pitching coach in 2019. Odorizzi is one of the top free-agent arms in the tier below National League Cy Young winner Trevor Bauer. The Mets already have Jacob deGrom, Noah Syndergaard, Steven Matz and Marcus Stroman in their rotation, but adding Odorizzi would give them one of the more complete rotations in the NL.
